Give from the United Kingdom
More than 200 students from the United Kingdom cross the Atlantic every year to benefit from a world-class education. Over the past 200 years, we’ve educated more than 2,000 of the UK’s most brilliant minds, collaborated on groundbreaking research and even established a scholarship program for students from the UK.
Help our partnership continue to flourish in McGill’s third century. Discover how you can make a tax-efficient gift though the McGill University Trust.
If you’re a UK taxpayer, the Trust may be able to claim Gift Aid on your donation, increasing its value by 25 per cent. If you’re a higher rate taxpayer, you may be able to claim additional tax relief.

Leave a bequest
Leave a lasting legacy by making a planned gift to McGill.
In the UK, bequests left to qualifying charities are free of UK inheritance tax. In addition, since 2012, the UK has encouraged giving with a reduced rate of inheritance tax applicable to estates where at least 10% of the taxable estate is left to one or more qualifying charities.
For those who intend to leave 10% or more of their taxable estate – broadly, the amount after inheritance tax reliefs and exemptions - the lower rate of inheritance tax represents a benefit to their heirs. However, the incentive’s real power is for those individuals who would have left between 4% and 10% of their taxable estate to charity. For these individuals, 'topping up' their bequests to 10%, allows them to give more to charity without taking away from the amount ultimately enjoyed by their heirs or other non-charitable beneficiaries.
We can help make an arrangement that both reflects your wishes and minimizes taxes on your estate. If you would like more information on legacy gifts, please fill out a form and we will get back to you. If you have already included McGill in your estate plans, kindly let us know by completing this simple form.
